Lewannick Reception Class Overview
The Reception Year
At Lewannick, our Reception Class continues to follow the EYFS Curriculum. They begin to read, write, learn mathematical skills, problem-solve, investigate, develop independence and so much more! We are committed to working with parents to support your child through this amazing journey.
Below you will find the Reception Year expectations.
Phonics
At Lewannick, we use the Read, Write inc Phonics scheme to teach early reading skills.
In our class, we share books, read aloud, act out and use our imagination to explore the world through stories. Reading enhances a child’s vocabulary, helps them to understand how to read and write and reading aloud to children encourages them to learn different topics about the world and everyday life.

Reading
Please can you hear your child read every evening. The stories we hear as children shape our view of the world. Reading stories to children can show them far-flung places, extraordinary people and eye-opening situations to expand and enrich their world. It also benefits their language and writing skills!
PE
Please can you have a named PE kit in school at all times. PE will be on a Wednesday and will be both indoors and out.
I am looking forward to supporting your child develop a love for learning over the year!
