Pupils learn and practice times tables in school but their performance in maths is considerably boosted if they practice regularly at home.
They are tested weekly, against the clock, when they prove their times table fact knowledge by completing a challenge of mixed order facts based on tables known and the current table being learnt. Tables are learnt in the following order:
x10, x5, x2, x3, x4, x6, x7, x8, x9, x11, x12
They will also need to know the division facts for each times table, e.g. 21÷3=7 45÷5=9
Current government education expectations are that pupils learn all times tables by age 9 and children in Kilmar Class will be encouraged and supported in improving their personal best with a linked reward strategy.
