Swimming 2013-14
We are really pleased to tell you that we will be giving all children in Years 1 to 6, the opportunity to swim this year. Increased funding for sport in schools has enabled us to invest in swimming by subsidising costs using some of this new funding. We recognise that swimming is an important (but more costly) part of our PE curriculum and therefore plan to take all pupils for 6 weeks in each term to the pool at Dragon Leisure Centre, Bodmin.
Kilmar and Trewortha Classes will therefore begin lessons every Tuesday afternoon from 17th September until half term. Following half term, Year 1 and 2 children will swim for 6 consecutive Tuesdays from 5th November to 10th December 2013.
After the Christmas holiday swimming lessons will take place on Friday afternoons with Kilmar and Trewortha Classes swimming in the first half term and Year 1 and 2 in the second. This order will be repeated in the Summer Term.
Children are transported by coach and accompanied by the teacher(s) and teaching assistants and we are employing the services of 2 swimming instructors from the pool.
We very much hope that this will continue to be a valuable and enjoyable experience for all children and will prove a decision in which our pupils’ attainment continues to improve. We will be offering badges at a small cost, as appropriate, to mark and celebrate achievements.
As a result of this additional funding we are now only asking parents to contribute £6 for every half term’s swimming. In order to make our accounting more efficient, we are requesting that parents/guardians pay for each half term’s swimming with a one off payment of £6.00.
