Welcome to our class webpage!
Here are some things you might like to know about our class and the things we get up to!
The adults in our class are Mrs Kilpin, (Teacher), Mrs Whitlock (Higher Level Teaching Assistants), Mrs Linda Dinnis and Miss Louise Asprey (Teaching Assistants).
Our class (formerly Class 4) is home to Year 6 (ages 10-11), and at the moment there are 16 of us.
Our classroom is a spacious, flexible working space with folding tables, brightly coloured lockers, funky furniture and a cosy little reading corner (with sofas).
In our class, we enjoy a lot of independence and we are encouraged to be more responsible for organising ourselves in whatever we do. Things like School Council, Food Group, Computer Cops, the Fair Trade shop and JRSO (Junior Road Safety Officers) help us to do this.
We do lots of project based work. Most of us really like this because we get to choose what we learn about and how we want to present it. We even have our own cupboard, full of resources. Projects are linked to the theme we are learning about at that time. So, for example, in our WW2 theme, projects ranged from evacuation to the war in South East Asia. Mrs Kilpin sometimes lets us work with another person or in groups. However, most of the time, we work by ourselves. We always evaluate our projects and class work, and our teachers help us to think about how we might improve things.
Lots of the work we do is linked to the theme we’re learning about. These themes last for either a whole term or half a term, depending on the topic. See the “This Term” page for details.
All our teachers love being outside and so do we! We’ve made our own den and we help to look after the grounds. We’ve also got our own summerhouse to hang out in during break.
We also go on loads of trips and visits. Our residentials are at Penzance YHA, (1 week), and London (3 days). Each year, Year 6 also go on the French Trip. We travel as foot passengers overnight, to Roscoff, in Brittany. We then spend the day discovering the delights of French culture, before coming home later in the afternoon.
This is just a little taste of life at the top of the school. Please look at our other class pages, to see what we’ve been up to and learn a bit more.
