On 5 October, Rosamonde Birch from Parliament’s Education Service visited Kilmar and Trewortha Classes here at the school.
She began with Kilmar, explaining all about the Houses of Parliament and how our democracy works. She then organised a series of debates, with the children taking the part of MPs and the Speaker, debating and then voting on motions, and then adding amendments. You can see some images below (click to view).
Rosamunde then moved on to Trewortha Class, where she co-ordinated the creation of political parties, which then developed a series of policies. These then had to be sold to the others present, and were voted on at the end.
The visit was very successful, with the children learning a lot about how our democracy functions.
